The United States has unveiled the countries eligible for its 2025 Visa Waiver Programme. Among other African nations, Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana are not included in the new visa waiver programme for 2025, as the country implements updates to permit eligibility policies and other regulations.
The US Department of State recently announced updates to the 2025 Visa Waiver Programme (VWP), which features an updated list of eligible nations and new travel guidelines.
This update makes it easier for millions globally to enter the United States without a visa, enhancing accessibility for business, tourism, and transit travel.
However, while the new VWP opens up exciting opportunities for international travellers from numerous countries, some nations are expressing disappointment over this development.
The 2025 visa waiver programme includes 40 countries whose citizens can now enter the United States without a visa. Romania has been added to the list this year as a new participant. Nevertheless, Taiwan and the United Kingdom remain eligible under specific criteria.

The US Bureau of Consular Affairs website states that the Visa Waiver Programme permits citizens or nationals of participating nations to travel to the United States for tourism or business for up to 90 days without needing a visa.
The visa waiver programme enables travellers from qualifying countries to visit the United States for up to 90 days for tourism or business without obtaining a visa.
Rather than enduring a lengthy visa application process, eligible individuals can submit an electronic system for travel authorisation (ESTA) request before their departure.
While the majority of the list for the VWP remains unchanged, the inclusion of Romania represents a notable modification. The U.S. has also concentrated on improving security measures and prioritising nations with solid diplomatic ties and robust border security protocols.
