As part of President Donald Trump’s effort to reduce expenditure, a second email was sent late Friday, asking government employees in the United States to defend their positions.
It happened a week after Elon Musk, the billionaire Trump designated to reduce government spending, sent the first mass email to the two million federal employees, telling them to defend their job or face termination.
Several federal agencies instructed employees to disregard the initial communication, which was sent by the government’s human resources department, the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM). This had caused uncertainty among the already tense workforce.
Staff members were once more instructed in Friday’s email to reply with around five bullet points outlining their successes for the week. It was also mentioned that this would be a weekly task.
The subject line of the most recent set of emails was, “What did you do last week? Workers from several federal departments received Part II.

“Please reply to this email with approximately 5 bullets describing what you accomplished last week and CC your manager,” according to the message seen by AFP.
Musk, whom Trump appointed to lead the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), tasked with cutting public expenditure and combating corruption and waste, has not commented on his X platform about the new emails.
The second email, in contrast to the first, also requested that employees submit their list of accomplishments by Monday at the latest, now every week.
According to the email, employees who engage in sensitive or classified tasks could simply reply, “All of my activities are sensitive.”
The initial email, according to Musk, “was a check to see if the employee had a pulse and was capable of replying to an email.”
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said that Musk was “doing a great job” but added, “I would like to see him get more aggressive.”
