As part of an effort by the US to deepen its relations on the continent, US first lady Jill Biden has landed in Namibia, her first destination on a five-day visit of the continent.
On Wednesday afternoon, Biden arrived at Windhoek’s airport before visiting Heroes’ Acre, a military memorial, with the first lady of Namibia.
According to a statement she posted on social media, the main topics of her tour will be education, health, and empowering girls and women. She stated that after Namibia, she will travel to Kenya to hear from those who had been impacted by the drought and food insecurity.
To counter the impact of China and Russia on the continent, the Biden administration is planning a number of high-level trips there this year.
Despite claiming that the combined naval exercise with Russia and China is regular, South Africa is presently hosting it, alarming the US and other Western allies. As first lady, Jill Biden is making her first trip to Africa.
