The United States led the medal count at the just concluded 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday, securing a total of 126 medals, including 40 gold and 44 silver.
They narrowly surpassed China, who also won 40 gold but had fewer silver medals, with a total of 91 medals.
The U.S. achieved this success primarily through swimming and track events, contributing 28 and 34 medals, respectively.
Meanwhile, China excelled in diving, shooting, table tennis, and wrestling.
France, the host nation, performed exceptionally well, winning 64 medals, including 16 gold, marking their best performance in over a century.
Australia also stood out, winning 53 medals, 18 of them gold, despite its relatively small population.
The Paris Olympics concluded with a closing ceremony at the Stade de France, where the Olympic flag was passed to Los Angeles, the host of the 2028 Games.
The ceremony featured performances by musicians from California, showcasing LA’s diverse cultures and entertainment.
The LA28 Chairperson, Casey Wasserman, emphasised the significance of this moment as LA prepares to host the next Summer Games.
