Athletics icon Usain Bolt has been appointed ambassador for EXPO 2027 in Belgrade, following a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Tuesday.
Bolt, an eight-time Olympic gold medalist and 11-time world champion, met with President Vucic before they addressed the press together in a joint news conference.
Expressing gratitude for the role and his first-ever visit to Serbia, Bolt said: “I know great players and sports stars from your country, and for me, it’s an honour to actually be here for the first time.”

When asked about the role of sports and play in personal and societal development, Bolt emphasised their lasting value: “I think it’s crucial and something that I continue supporting and loving, even though I’m retired, but I love sports and I love play.”
EXPO 2027 Belgrade is set to bring together over 120 countries in a global celebration of innovation, creativity, and shared progress. Through exhibitions, research initiatives, and visionary programs, the expo aims to foster international cooperation and build a brighter, more connected future.
