Virgil van Dijk has dropped a strong hint that he could extend his stay at Liverpool after scoring a decisive late goal to earn a 2-1 win over West Ham on Sunday.
The Dutch centre-back, whose contract is due to expire at the end of the season, underlined his affection for the club and pride in captaining the side as he marked his 100th game wearing the armband.
Reports suggest he may soon follow Mohamed Salah in committing to a new deal at Anfield.
Although Van Dijk was partly at fault for West Ham’s late equaliser—after a defensive mix-up with Andy Robertson—he quickly redeemed himself by heading home from an Alexis Mac Allister corner to restore Liverpool’s lead just minutes later.

The result puts the Reds 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League with just six games remaining. They now require a maximum of six points to clinch the title and could be crowned champions as early as next weekend, depending on other results.
Speaking after the match, Van Dijk said, “I am very proud to captain my 100th game for Liverpool. That was the main focus—get the three points and move a step closer to all of our dreams. Not just us as players and staff, but everyone connected to Liverpool FC.
“Everyone knows I love this club, and let’s see what next week will look like.”
Salah, who has just agreed to a two-year extension to remain at the club, said he hopes his longtime teammate will follow suit.
“I’m glad to do that early before the end of the season, and hopefully Virgil will be next,” he said. “I would love to see him again here next year.”
