Security Operatives were deployed over the alleged removal of Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni as the Chairman of the caretaker committee, grounding vehicular movement in and around the National Secretariat of the APC in Abuja on Monday morning.
The hindrance in vehicular movement followed the cordoning off of all-access roads directly leading to the secretariat on Blantyre Street, Wuse 2, Abuja thereby hindering party members and secretariat staff from entering the premises.
The action was necessitated to guard against the breakdown of law and order following purported reports that the Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello has taken over the APC as ‘sole administrator’ and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni fired as chairman of the caretaker committee.
The report stated that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved Buni’s sack and Bello’s appointment shortly before leaving the country to London on Sunday afternoon.
The report was, however, debunked by the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the All Progressive Congress.
Reacting to the incident, the National Secretary of the CECPC, John Akpanudoedehe in a statement titled “Fake News: No leadership change in APC CECPC”, disclosed that leadership changes are not announced by ‘sources’ through name-dropping in the media.
He added, ”Our attention has been drawn to sponsored media reports on an imaginary leadership change in the All Progressive Congress Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.
“The APC is a progressive political party guided by rules. Leadership changes are not announced by ‘sources’ through name-dropping in the media.
“We urge our teeming supporters, members and indeed the general public to remain calm and support the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led APC CECPC to conduct a rancour-free and credible National Convention.”
