A federal high court in Abuja has granted bail to controversial social media critic Martins ‘VeryDarkMan‘ Otse, who had been remanded in police custody for alleged cyberbullying.

The well-known figure on social media was also freed from police detention on Monday after meeting his bail requirements.

As of the time of this article, no specifics on the bail requirement had been made public.

Otse was charged with five counts of cyberstalking at the federal high court in Abuja on May 22.

The defendant allegedly uploaded films on his Instagram account with content that was “grossly offensive, pornographic or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character,” according to one of the allegations brought by the Nigerian police.

The defendant was purportedly accusing Iyabo Ojo of engaging in an improper sexual contact with her daughter in a different accusation.

The defendant claimed Tonto Dikeh was the author of the gossip blog Gistlover, according to police claims.

However, the social media star entered a not guilty plea to each and every accusation.

The social media critic’s attorneys requested that he be retained in police custody despite the prosecution’s desire to place him in prison. He was brought to the National Cybercrime Centre after the judge accepted their request.

The activist was set free on March 31 after being taken into custody on March 22.

According to VeryDarkman’s attorney, the Dikeh, Ojo, and singer Samklef petitioned to have him taken into custody.

In January, Dikeh also secured the arrest of the social media celebrity over alleged cyberbullying and cyberstalking.

VeryDarkMan was later released from police custody.
