Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has called on the political class in Kano State to put aside their differences and promote peace and unity across the state.

He made the appeal during a condolence visit to the family of the late Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, who passed away recently. Speaking at the residence of the deceased, the Vice President urged political leaders in the state not to let politics divide them.

“Please and please I plead with you not to allow politics to divide you, you should be united,” Shettima stated, emphasising the importance of unity in Kano, which he described as the “heart of the north.” He added, “May Allah bring unity among us.”

In his remarks, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State thanked the Vice President for his visit and expressed appreciation on behalf of the government and the people of the state. “We thank you so much for coming to commiserate with us over the death of our father, grandfather. We pray for Almighty Allah to take you back home safely,” the governor said.

He noted the presence of representatives from various political parties at the funeral and during the condolence visit, expressing thanks for the solidarity shown. “We are grateful to the governor who was here at the funeral and came back to condole us again, now he is here with the Vice President, we are grateful.”

Details of the visit were shared in a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor, Mustapha Muhammad.
