In Kenya, security forces used tear gas and water cannons, and also fired shots into the air to disperse the crowds, as protesters threw stones at them.
Riot police cordoned off the parliament building while lawmakers discussed the tax bill and the State House, which houses the president’s office and residence.
The parliament approved the measures and then adjourned, with protesters gathering outside the building.
Kenya’s parliament passed a controversial finance bill on Tuesday, increasing taxes, while clashes between police and demonstrators erupted in the streets of the capital Nairobi and other cities.
