(VIDEO): Protesters Gather at Ikeja Under Bridge on October 1

Protest

Hundreds of protesters assembled at Ikeja Under Bridge Tuesday morning, October 1, to express their discontent with the current state of affairs in Nigeria. News Central reports that by 07:35 AM, a heavy security presence had already been deployed in anticipation of the planned protest.

The protesters, holding placards, voiced their frustrations over the worsening living conditions for the average Nigerian. One of the demonstrators, Gideon Adeyele, stated: “While the ruling elites gather to flaunt their wealth, we are here to highlight the deteriorating state of life for the masses. Education is almost inaccessible for the common man, many Nigerians are homeless, and healthcare is out of reach. Life has become unbearable, and even something as basic as water is not accessible to many citizens.”

Adeyele, along with others, called for an improved quality of life for Nigerians, emphasising the need for immediate reforms.

Laura Ibe, another protester wearing a branded black T-shirt, added: “Nigerians are here today to celebrate their survival against the government’s anti-people policies. We should be able to speak freely without harassment. This government must stop its harmful policies. This is a notice for them to right their wrongs. The removal of the fuel subsidy must be reconsidered, as many people can no longer afford to work or make a living.”

The protest serves as a vocal reminder to the government of the pressing needs and demands of the Nigerian populace.
