The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has started the local government elections across all 44 local government areas in the state, following a court ruling on Friday that cleared the way for the polls.
The security for the elections is managed by the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) working together with local vigilante groups to ensure everything goes smoothly.
This decision follows the Kano State Police Command‘s announcement that they would not take part in the elections, as directed by the Federal High Court in the state.
In preparation for the election, the state government, working with security agencies, imposed movement restrictions.
The restrictions took effect from midnight on Friday and will remain in place until 6:00 PM on Saturday to maintain order throughout the voting process.
