The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has given notice that the vote on the ‘contentious’ anti-LGBTQI Bill will be made public.
The speaker said parliament will ensure that Ghanaians are able to watch how lawmakers vote on the controversial issue.
Hon. Bagbin, speaking to parliamentarians after they returned from recess, said Ghanaians should know where each MP comes from.
“The Committee’s seating will be open to the public, as will the House’s decision.” We’ll need to know where each Member of Parliament is located.”
He also stated that, despite the numerous controversies surrounding the bill, it is beneficial to Ghana’s democracy.
“In fact, it has taken on some new dimensions.” This, in my opinion, is healthy for a developing democracy like Ghana. It’s critical that we allow people with a variety of viewpoints to express themselves on the bill. As Ghanaians, I implore you to respect the views of others, regardless of their perceptions, and to keep the peace that we have.
