VP Shettima: Tax Reforms Aimed at Nigerian Citizens’ Benefit

VP Shettima Tax Reforms Aimed at Nigerian Citizens' Benefit

Vice President Kashim Shettima has asserted that Nigeria’s tax reforms, spearheaded by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, are designed to enhance the system for the collective welfare of all citizens.

Contrary to speculations, Shettima emphasised, “We are not here to frustrate any sector of our economy but to create an administrative system that ensures the benefits of a thriving tax system for all our citizens.”

Speaking at the close-out retreat of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, Shettima, represented by Dr. Aliyu Moddibo, Special Adviser to the President on General Duties (Office of the Vice President), elaborated on the administration’s policy direction regarding tax reforms. He noted that the evolving fiscal landscape prompted the Tinubu administration to pause and reconsider its approach.

“Our aim remains the revitalisation of revenue generation in Nigeria while sustaining an investment-friendly and globally competitive business environment,” he affirmed.

Expressing confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver, Shettima underscored the significance of the task ahead. He stated, “We are gathered today because we are transitioning from the phase of the proposal in the operations of this committee’s work to the phase of implementation.“

Shettima further expressed assurance that both the federal and state governments are prepared to ensure the effective implementation of the reform proposals. He pledged to provide the institutional framework necessary to adopt the consensuses of the committee, aligning them with the economic agenda of the nation.
