WhatsApp Adds 'Expiring Groups' to Latest Beta Version (News Central TV)

WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will let group conversation memberships on the secure platform to expire after a predetermined amount of time. Users will be able to give their WhatsApp groups a particular expiration date using a new “Expiring Groups” setting. When it’s turned on, users will be asked to delete groups when they reach their expiry date.

According to WABetaInfo, “When this feature is released, users will be able to choose from various expiration options such as one day, one week, or a custom date, and they will also have the ability to remove an expiration that was previously set in case they change their mind.”  The option is only for the individual user and “won’t apply to other group participants,” the source adds.

Version 23.5.0.71, which WhatsApp developers submitted via the TestFlight Beta Program, contains the functionality. Although it is unclear when it will be ready to launch, users with numerous group affiliations are likely to be happy to hear that it is currently under development.

Another function that WhatsApp is allegedly developing could assist users in avoiding spam calls on the platform. The feature will reportedly allow users to block calls from unknown numbers, though blocked calls won’t be accessible in the Calls list or Notification Center.

The latter function is being created as a solution to an issue brought on by WhatsApp’s Communities feature, which has allegedly exposed numbers to arbitrary calls and group chat.
