WHO Approves Drug Manufactured in Nigeria (News Central TV)

The World Health Organisation,WHO, has added Swiss Pharma (SWIPHA) Nigeria Limited’s paediatric zinc sulphate tablet (20 mg dispersible tablet) to its list of prequalified medications.

The medicine passed the WHO’s prequalification test after being confirmed, becoming the first in Sub-Saharan Africa, according to Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General of the National Agency for Food and medicine Administration and Control, who made this announcement in Lagos.

She claimed that the achievement was made possible by the company’s initiative and its cooperation with NAFDAC, as previous attempts had been met with a number of WHO non-conformance observations.

“This commendable attainment without an iota of doubt has reinforced our conviction that with the right attitude, collaboration and synergy, Nigeria Pharma Industries can become a force to reckon with in Sub-Saharan Africa and in the comity of nations,” she added.

Managing Director, SWIPHA, Frederic Lieutand, commended the NAFDAC’s efforts in ensuring that the drug got the nod of the WHO, saying “we’ll continue to provide high quality drugs in Nigeria.”
