The Plateau State coordinator of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Musa Mahdi, has stated the importance of childhood immunisation. Speaking on Tuesday at the inauguration of the African Vaccination Week, he emphasised that vaccines are crucial in preventing vaccine-preventable diseases in children.
Mahdi highlighted the role of vaccination in eradicating diseases such as smallpox and reducing the burden of numerous vaccine-preventable diseases. He urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children receive full immunisation.
Adding to the discussion, Raymond Juylit, the executive secretary of the Plateau State Primary Health Care Board, urged parents to consistently immunise their children. He emphasised the role of vaccination in preventing disease transmission and mortality. Health talks were conducted for mothers, and a sensitisation walk was organised to commemorate the week.
