WHO Reports New Ebola Case In Guinea

The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported a new case of Ebola Virus in Guinea after 27 days without a new confirmed case.

The director of WHO Regional Office for Africa, Matshidiso Moeti disclosed this in a tweet saying the new case was registered in Soulouta, a village in the southeastern N’Zerekore region of Guinea.

The health body remains on high alert — supporting Guinean health authorities’ surveillance efforts & preparedness in neighboring countries.

This is the first case since March 4 bringing the total number of reported cases to 19, including 19 previously registered deaths. The last death was recorded on March 24.

To reduce the spread of the virus, Guinea and other countries like D.R. Congo have commenced immunization against the virus.

According to WHO data, more than 1,600 people have been vaccinated. The Ebola epidemic claimed over 11,300 lives in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone between 2013 and 2016.
