Widow of Kiru Principal, Jane Muthoni, Bags 30years in Jail

Jane Muthoni and her co-accused Isaac Ng’ang’a in court

The High Court in Nakuru, Kenya, has sentenced Jane Muthoni, a former Icaciri Girls Secondary School Principal and her co-accused Isaac Ng’ang’a to 30 years in prison each for the murder of former Kiru Boys principal, Solomon Mbuthi.

The ruling on the morning of Thursday, June 3, marks the end of a five-year-long court battle. In his judgement, Justice Joel Ngugi said the sentences will run from the date the two were arraigned in November and December 2016.

The prosecution stated during the trial that Muthoni hired four people to eliminate her husband after she suspected him of having an affair with another woman.

Justice Joel Ngugi handed Jane Muthoni the sentence saying she severally planned the murder of Solomon Mwangi.

Jane Muthoni convicted of the murder of her husband Solomon Mwangi

Mwangi, a principal at Kiiru Boys Secondary School, was murdered on November 6, 2016, by hitmen hired by Muthoni who was at the time the School Head at Icaciri Girls Secondary School. Isaac Ng’ang’a, the co-accused in the case was handed a similar sentence.

Witnesses told the court Muthoni had at some point hired her alongside someone else for Sh200,000 to retrieve text messages between the deceased and a 28-year-old M-Pesa agent.

The M-Pesa shop attendant Muthoni had accused of having an affair with her husband told court the principal had threatened her many times over an alleged love affair.

Justice Ngugi said Muthoni masterminded and procured her husband’s killers although she did not participate in the actual murder.
