The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has praised President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to governance that benefits the people.
Speaking on Monday at the launch of staff quarters for the Nigerian Law School in Abuja, Wike described the President as a leader who supports meaningful and forward-thinking policies.
Wike highlighted how Tinubu’s approach to governance has enabled him to carry out his ministerial duties effectively.
“It is one thing to give somebody an appointment; it is another thing to give full support,” Wike stated. He expressed gratitude for the President’s backing, adding that it has empowered him to deliver on critical projects in the FCT.
He likened Tinubu’s leadership style to that of a businessman dedicated to ensuring the success of his enterprise.
According to Wike, Tinubu understands that governance should bring tangible benefits to citizens. He recounted how the administration’s decision to discontinue the single-treasury account for the FCT allowed the territory to access commercial banking services, unlocking funds for infrastructure projects.
“We were not a single-treasurer account. In fact, if we were still operating that, you wouldn’t have seen me at the Cuban Philographer Project. But Mr. President knew that pulling us out of that single-treasurer account and making us independent to participate in the wider financial market will bring a lot of improvement on infrastructure.
“And that’s what is happening to us today. That we are able to interfere with commercial banks, we are able to have our own funds, before all our money is entirely generated revenue, it goes to the central bank. And then you can’t go to a commercial bank to say you need money,” the minister explained.
He emphasised that such progress in the FCT would not have been possible without Tinubu’s vision and support.
Using a local analogy, Wike said, “When people say the minister is doing this or that, it’s because there’s someone behind him providing the necessary backing, and that’s Mr. President.”
