The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Nigeria, Nyesom Wike, has told Abuja residents that he is a tool for development used by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to fulfil the promises made by his administration.
Wike said this on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, while inaugurating the construction of the Kabusa Ketti Access road in Abuja.
“So, note that Mr President has come through me to fulfil the promises he has made”, he said.
He went further to explain that government is like a contract with people. “It’s like a covenant with people”, he said.
Wike emphasised that when the president sought votes, he made specific promises, such as providing access roads to ease transportation, support farming, and address security challenges.
According to him, the president is now fulfilling those commitments, including building a senior secondary school for Ketti and constructing the Kabusa-Ketti Road, demonstrating that government operates on mutual agreement: “If people vote for a leader, the leader is obliged to deliver on their promises.”
Wike urged the audience to hold leaders accountable, noting that if some politicians ignored them in the past, they should be cautious about granting them access in the future. However, he also requested recognition and support when engaging with them.
