The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has invested over N300 billion in the development of satellite towns within the FCT.
Wike made this statement on Wednesday during the inauguration of the nine-kilometre Paikon Kore – Ibwa Road in the Gwagwalada Area Council.
He noted that this expenditure, which took place between January 2024 and January 2025, reflects President Tinubu’s priority on the growth of satellite towns. According to him, the president is dedicated to the enhancement of Abuja and the progress of its satellite towns.
He emphasised that out of the more than N300 billion that has been spent, over N50 billion was allocated to the Gwagwalada Area Council, while 8.5 billion was dedicated to rehabilitating the Paikon Kore – Ibwa Road.
“If you calculate the total amount, excluding the two Police Divisions under construction, Mr President has committed to Gwagwalada alone more than N50 billion.
“If you add the six area councils, with Gwagwalada having the least amount, you will see that in just a year, Mr President has committed more than N300 billion to the development of satellite towns.” He said.
The minister also pointed out that N22 billion has been set aside to construct the Aguma Palace – Market – Radio Nigeria Road, which is scheduled to be inaugurated in May 2025.
Additionally, he shared that the FCT Administration has invested N16.5 billion to upgrade and rehabilitate five secondary schools in Gwagwalada.
He listed the schools as School for the Gifted, Government Secondary School (GSS) Gwagwalada, GSS Anagada, Government Science Secondary School in Tungan Maji, and GSS Giri.
Wike reaffirmed the president’s resolve to promote inclusive governance and carry out projects aligned with the community’s needs, assuring residents of more initiatives in the pipeline.
In her remarks, the FCT minister of state, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, encouraged the communities benefiting from the road to take care of it, use it properly, and collaborate to ensure ongoing developmental progress.
