Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Wizkid made history on Monday night with a mesmerizing performance of his new track Troubled Mind at the 2024 British Fashion Awards. This milestone marks him as the first African artist to ever perform at the prestigious event.
The ceremony, held at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall, brought together the crème de la crème of the fashion world, including British-Nigerian designer Tolu Coker, Dior’s Kim Jones, and fashion icon Tom Ford.
Wizkid’s emotional delivery of Troubled Mind, the opening song from his sixth studio album Morayo, left the audience spellbound. The album, released earlier this year, has already been making waves worldwide.
The night wasn’t just about music—it also celebrated standout achievements in fashion. Irish designer Jonathan Anderson secured the Designer of the Year award for the second consecutive time, while American rapper A$AP Rocky was recognized with the Cultural Innovator award. Rihanna, attending to support Rocky, added even more star power to the event.
Wizkid, born Ayodeji Balogun, has been a global force in music since his breakthrough in 2011 with his debut album Superstar. Over the years, he has released five additional albums: Ayo (2014), Sounds From The Other Side (2017), Made In Lagos (2020), More Love, Less Ego (2022), and his latest project, Morayo (2024).
His accolades are equally impressive. In 2021, he won a Grammy for his contribution to Beyoncé’s Brown Skin Girl, and his Made In Lagos album became the most-streamed Nigerian album on Apple Music in October 2023.
Wizkid’s performance at the British Fashion Awards solidifies his status as a global icon, showcasing his ability not only to create chart-topping music but also to connect deeply with audiences across the world.
