Omah Lay during an interview disclosed that he is in a relationship with Tems, and this relationship started after they were arrested at Uganda. He said, ‘’ Me and Tems have a relationship. We were not friends before, but this whole Uganda thing brought us together’’
Tems and Omah had left many Nigerians worried following their arrest by the Ugandan police. The two had been accused of going against COVID-19 restrictions and charged to court for negligently getting involved in acts that could aid the spread of an infectious disease.
Speaking on the ugly experience they had in Uganda, Omah Lay said, he would want to visit the country again. When Ebuka Obi-Uchendu asked if he had any regrets for attending the concert in the East African country, he categorically stated that he didn’t have any. According to him, the night he spent with fans was nothing short of a beautiful one.
Omah also noted that he would love to be back in the country just to spend more time with the fans who showed him so much love. In his words, “I don’t regret going to Uganda. The night with my Uganda fans was a perfect night. I would want to go back to see those people. There was a lot of energy and love.”
Speaking on his musical journey, Omah Lay said the reactions he got from people when his first project came out was quite overwhelming. ’’The reaction I got from people when I came out last year was shocking, but that had always been a dream. I had plans to take things slowly but it just happened the way it happened, and I’m grateful…I was scared when I wanted to put out my first project “get Layd.” I was scared that it was not good enough. It was not showing enough of me. It was five songs on the project. I was scared it was not going to show me off enough.’’
When asked how he feels about artistes in his generation and the kind of music he makes, Omah Lay said, ‘’I feel blessed to be part of the new guys trying to sell African music to the world. I want people to know me for several things, I do not like it when people put my music in a box’’.
