Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen killed a commuter in a bus on Newlands West Drive near Berghill Drive, North of Durban on Wednesday, paramedics said.
A spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, Garrith Jamieson said three gunmen shot at the bus around 17:30, hitting two men and a woman.
“One of the men had been rushed privately to the hospital before the paramedics’ arrival. One female believed to be in her 50s had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. There was nothing paramedics could do for her, and she was declared deceased on scene,” said Jamieson.
Jamieson added that a man in his 50s sustained back injuries and received treatment before he was hospitalised.
“At this stage, the events leading up to the shooting are unknown. However, SAPS was in attendance and will be investigating further,” he said.
SAPS is yet to make an official statement on the matter.
Newlands West Drive is notorious for bus robberies and several drivers have also been shot over the last few years.
