Some civil servants in Abia State have expressed dissatisfaction with the decision to suspend the Organised Labour’s two-day strike.
Conversely, others are praising the unions for easing the strike to provide the government with a chance to address the labour unions’ minimum wage demands.
Residents of Umuahia had already started experiencing the strike’s impact, with power distribution disruptions leading to increased expenses for fuel to run generators in homes and businesses.
News Central reports that the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC)and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) suspended the nationwide strike after it entered the second day. The strike was suspended for five days.
This decision followed shortly after the Organised Labour rounded up a meeting with the Nigerian government on the new minimum wage demand.
During the meeting, the government pleaded with labour to suspend the strike, and assured that the new minimum wage offer will go above the current N60,000.
Labour insists on N494,000 as the new minimum wage demand.
