Workers Trapped as Three-Storey Building Collapses in Lagos (News Central TV)

Tragedy struck in the upscale area of Ikoyi as a three-story building collapsed in Banana Island, Lagos. The building, which was still under construction, reportedly caved in, trapping several workers on site.

The incident was reported to authorities, and emergency responders immediately mobilised to the scene to commence rescue operations. The collapsed building is located on First Avenue in Banana Island, known for its high-end properties and luxurious lifestyle.

The spokesperson for the Lagos Fire Service and Rescue Service, Amodu Shakiru, confirmed the incident.

He said, “We got a call around 3:58 pm. We are currently trying to ascertain the claim that no one was under the rubble.”

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud bang before the building crumbled to the ground. Some workers managed to escape, but others were trapped underneath the debris.  

At the moment, the cause of the collapse is still unknown, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident. The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has been notified and is conducting investigations to ascertain if the building had the necessary approvals and permits for construction.
