World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings, scheduled for October in Marrakesh, Morocco, will take place in Washington, D.C., next year.
Both organizations said in a joint statement that the decision was taken following consultation with the Kingdom of Morocco, citing uncertainty over COVID-19 as the rationale for the change.
However, they announced that the October 2023 annual meetings would now be held in Marrakesh.
Two consecutive annual meetings are usually held at the headquarters of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., every third year in a different member country.
Participants in the meetings include central bankers, finance and development ministers, private sector executives, civil society leaders, the media, and academics.
They include the world economic outlook, global financial stability, poverty eradication, inclusive economic growth and job creation, climate change, and many more.
Both organizations had planned to meet in Morocco in 2021 but had to postpone the events to November 2020 due to the pandemic.
Since the pandemic began in the latter part of 2019, the World Bank and the IMF have held virtual spring and fall meetings.
However, the 2021 meetings in Washington in October included some in-person gatherings.
The organisations did not state what format the 2022 and 2023 meetings would take.
