Japanese supercentenarian Tomiko Itooka has passed away at the age of 116 years and 220 days.
Itooka became the world’s oldest verified living person on August 19, 2024, following the death of Maria Branyas. She was also recognised as Japan’s oldest living person after Fusa Tatsumi passed away on December 12, 2023.
Guinness World Records officially acknowledged her as the world’s oldest person. Her death on December 29, 2024, marks the end of an extraordinary life.
The title of the world’s oldest person now passes to Brazilian nun Inah Canabarro Lucas, who is also 116 years old.
