Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has congratulated his friend and brother, Aliko Dangote, on the completion of his $20 billion refinery in Lagos.
Otedola noted that with the Dangote Refinery now operational, Nigeria’s dependence on foreign partners for its fuel needs has ended.
“You haven’t just built a refinery; you’ve freed us from the chains of economic dependence that have held this nation back for too long. Thanks to your vision and determination, the days of relying on foreign powers for our fuel needs are over,” Otedola wrote in a social media post on Tuesday.
He further stated that with the 650,000 barrels per day facility now fully producing aviation fuel, diesel, and petrol, Dangote has delivered a decisive blow to local cabals.
“You’ve struck a fatal blow to the so-called local cabals who have enriched themselves for years by feeding off our nation’s economic subjugation. These cabals, who have thrived by keeping Nigeria perpetually dependent, must now confront the reality that their era of easy profits is coming to an end.”
Otedola also recalled how Dangote revolutionised Nigeria’s cement industry, rendering the ships that once brought in cement obsolete.
“Now, with your refinery in full operation, I foresee a similar fate for fuel imports. Depot owners should take note—it’s time to dismantle those depots and sell them as scraps while the market is still favourable. The world has changed, and those who fail to adapt will be left behind.
“Aliko, you have my deepest admiration and respect. Congratulations to you and the entire board, management, and staff of Dangote Refinery on this monumental achievement. This is not just a victory for you, but for every Nigerian who dares to dream. May this be the beginning of even greater things to come,” he said.
