Zambia Dissolves Parliament Ahead of August Election

Zambia’s parliament has been dissolved exactly 90 days to the 2021 general election. The clerk announced that it would formally dissolve the parliament on Friday.

The Zambian constitution requires that parliament is dissolved 90 days before the next election.

Electorates will head to the polls on 21 August. Ahead of the elections,UK contributed £500,000 (£702,000) to a democracy programme managed by the UN Development Programme to support a democratic election while ensuring legitimacy and fairness during the electoral process.

The incumbent President, Edgar Lungu who is also seeking a re-election and has assured international partners of a free and fair election.
