Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema is currently in Tanzania for bilateral meetings with President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
“We have safely arrived in the United Republic of Tanzania. Here we will hold a series of bilateral meetings and interact with business leaders and investors.
“This trip is a continuation of our policy of economic diplomacy that has already borne fruit in bringing jobs and opportunities for our people,” wrote Hakainde.
In a statement on Monday, Zambia Foreign Affairs Minister Stanley Kakubo said the visit aims to enhance “trade, investment and infrastructure development”.
“This visit is highly significant as Tanzania remains a strategic partner as a link for transportation in the southern region for both freight and passengers through the eastern African seaport of Dar es Salaam,” said Kakubo.
The two leaders are anticipated to reach an agreement during their bilateral talks at State House Dar es Salaam on modernizing the 1,710 km Tanzania Zambia Mafuta (Tazama) pipeline and updating the Chinese-built, 46-year-old Tanzania Zambia Railways (Tazara).
The busiest entryway connecting Tanzania with southern African republics, the Tunduma-Nakonde one-stop border post, will also be a topic of discussion between the presidents.
In addition, President Hichilema will visit the Tazara headquarters, the Tazama station in Kigamboni, the main terminus of the electric standard gauge railway (SGR) in Dar, and the port of Dar es Salaam.
After only one year in power and stabilising Zambia‘s economy, Hakainde Hichilema is currently popular. Edgar Chagwa Lungu was replaced as the leader by him.
