Zambia to Launch Satellite in 2023

Zambia on Friday announced its preparedness to launch a satellite in 2023.

Science and Technology Minister Felix Mutati said the nation’s digital economy fortunes will be greatly impacted by moving to digital technology.

He added that the move will help the government plan ahead in meeting challenges such as climate change, flooding, and health matters.

After touring the Mwembeshi satellite earth station at the country’s National Remote Sensing Center, Mutati said the country’s sole satellite at Mwembeshi, west of the capital Lusaka, was launched in 1974, and expressed optimism over the country’s preparedness and requisite professionalism to attain the goal.

The Minister took office last September after the new government won the national polls in August.

A month later, he announced that he had put a 100-day plan in motion for the Southern African nation to set its digital development agenda.

If this project is implemented, it will raise Zambia to one of Africa’s technology data solution-driven nations.
