Zambian President, Edgar Lungu has sacked the country’s Minister of Health, Chitalu Chilufya.
The President failed to cite any reason for his action in what is a fall from grace by the Minister.
Seen in the Southern African country as Lungu’s replacement and favourite, there have been growing calls for Chilufya’s dismissal by the nation’s health workers and the opposition.
His political ambitions have since been dampened by the growing distrust of his ability in the country.
“The President has thanked Dr Chilufya for the services rendered to government and wished him well in his future endeavors,” the President’s office said in a statement on Sunday.
“I have terminated the appointment of Hon. Dr Chitalu Chilufya as Minister of Health with immediate effect, ” the President also tweeted.
“To this effect, I have transferred Hon Dr. Jonas Kamima Chanda, MP Bwana Mkubwa, to the Ministry of Health.”
