Zambia’s cabinet on Tuesday approved the introduction of a bill in parliament that will enhance public health security in the country.
Dora Siliya, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, said the cabinet approved the publication and introduction of the Zambia National Public Health Institute Bill during the current sitting of parliament.
She said this was approved on Monday.
“Currently, there is no legal framework for the public health security in the country,’’ she said in a statement.
According to her, the legal framework will enable the effective fulfilment of functions that cut across multiple sectors aimed at promoting good health.
The objectives of the bill include coordinating public health security, establishing the public health emergency operations centre, establishing public health laboratory and establishing the national public health emergency fund.
