Getrude Imenda, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Party for National Development (UPND), has recommended party structures across the country to promote more women to participate in leadership posts at the province and district levels.
Women in leadership roles across the country are underrepresented, according to Ms Imenda, who expressed her unhappiness with the situation.
She has since urged the party to explore expanding its female membership whenever the opportunity presents itself.
Ms Imenda made these remarks during a meeting with UPND officials from the province of Lusaka, which took place today in Lusaka.
She also asked party officials to be sensitive to gender issues throughout the selection process in order for Zambia to be in compliance with international standards requiring 50% female representation in leadership posts.
Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata has extended an invitation to any and all concerned persons to come to her office in order to share developmental ideas and to express their problems with her.
Ms Mulyata also urged all members of the UPND to work together as a team in order to assist President Hakainde Hichilema in achieving much-needed national development results.
