Insecurity in Zamfara has deepened as bandits abducted worshippers at a central mosque early Thursday morning.
News Central gathered that bandits have abducted over 30 worshippers in one of the mosques in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State in Northern Nigeria.
Indigenes in the area stated that the attack on the religious centre happened around 5 a.m. at the regular time of the morning prayer. Reliable sources gathered that the assailants broke into the mosque, firing sporadically before dragging the victims into the jungle.
An eyewitness report informed the press that ”We were about to start the morning prayer today, Thursday when suddenly they (bandits) entered into the mosque and directed everybody to go out and follow them…everybody scampered for safety but the bandits blocked everywhere and warned us that they would kill anybody who tried to run away.”
Banditry in Zamfara has continued to plague local communities making trade and livelihood difficult for indigenes. Reports of kidnappings and abductions have become commonplace in the area inspiring fear in local communities.
