Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle has ordered traditional institutions to obtain permission before bestowing traditional titles.

Zailani Bappa, Special Adviser for Public Enlightenment, Media, and Communications, revealed this in a statement.

The governor said, “All Emirs, Senior District Heads and District Heads in the state are hereby directed to officially seek permission from the State Government before conferring traditional titles to anyone.

“The directive becomes necessary in order to check indiscriminate award and possible abuse of the traditional institution.

“Henceforth, no Emir, Senior District Head or District Head must appoint anybody into any traditional office without securing official permission and clearance from the state Government.

“Compliance to this directive is now mandatory and failure to it will attract serious reprimand from the state Government.”

News Central had reported how the Yandoto Emirate conferred a title on a notorious bandit Adamu Alero, a development that sparked outrage across the country.

The Yandoton Daji Emirate in Zamfara State allegedly turbaned Ado Aliero, a notorious bandit, as Sarkin Fulanin Yandoto on Saturday. The turbaning ceremony took place hours after the emirate declared the suspension of the procedure.

Aliero was paid for the turbaning that Yandoto Alhaji Aliyu Marafa performed on him on Saturday. However, the procedure was stopped on the state government’s orders a few hours before the ceremony.

The emirate’s recent local peace process arrangement with the bandits terrorising Tsafe Local Government Area was the basis for the decision to bestow the title on the banditry leader.
