Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has reshuffled his cabinet and assigned a portfolio to a newly sworn-in commissioner.
The governor presided over a meeting of the Zamfara State Executive Council on Monday, during which the new commissioner was sworn in.
A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, revealed that the governor had made slight adjustments to the portfolios of some commissioners.
Idris explained that Kasimu Sani Kaura’s appointment followed the resignation of Mannir Haidara as commissioner, after his election as Chairman of the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Lawal emphasised that Kaura’s selection to represent Kaura Namoda Local Government Area in the cabinet was based on his commendable service to both his community and the state at large.
“His appointment reaffirms this administration’s commitment to drawing from the wealth of expertise and experience among our citizens to accelerate the delivery of democratic dividends and achieve the goals of our rescue agenda for the good people of Zamfara State,” the governor stated.
“I urge the new commissioner to dedicate himself fully to serving the people. As a key member of this rescue mission, I have no doubt that he will perform his duties to the highest standard for the benefit of all.
“Honourable Commissioner, I congratulate you on this opportunity to serve and pray for Allah’s guidance and protection upon you and all of us. I encourage you to collaborate closely with your colleagues in the council and your ministry to achieve the best outcomes for our people.”
The governor also reiterated that a thorough assessment of the skills, abilities, and performance of all senior government officials had informed the minor cabinet reshuffle.
“To improve efficiency and effectiveness in fulfilling our mandate, I believe it is necessary to make some adjustments within the cabinet,” Governor Lawal said.
“I expect all senior appointees to deliver their best and will continue to monitor everyone to ensure we have square pegs in square holes. Consequently, I have approved the following postings and redeployments, effective immediately.
“The newly appointed commissioner, Kasimu Sani Kaura, will serve as the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, replacing Hon. Mahmud Mohammed Abdullahi, who has been reassigned to the Ministry of Information and Culture.
“Hon. Nasiru Ibrahim Zurmi has been appointed Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, replacing Hon. Kabiru Moyi, who has been reassigned to Project Monitoring and Implementation.
“Furthermore, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad will now lead the Ministry of Health, succeeding Dr. Aisha M. Za Anka, who takes over as Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development.
“All handover processes must be completed within seven days. I remind you all that I will continue to periodically monitor and evaluate the performance of all appointees as we approach the mid-term of our administration. Let us use this period to recommit ourselves to the service of Zamfara State.”
