Zimbabwean government has advised religious congregations to not to admit children during church services.
The development is coming after government eased Level 4 lockdown and authorised churches to resume in-person services albeit for fully vaccinated members only.
The government also lowered the age limit of eligible people to be vaccinated to 14 years from 18 years.
Parents and guardians have been taking children below the minimum age of vaccination to attend services.
Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa said only fully vaccinated members were allowed to attend church, therefore, all children below the age of 14 years cannot attend church services since they are ineligible for vaccination.
Many parents say it defies logic for parents or guardians to attend church services in the absence of their wards.
Other churchgoers say the move is a violation of “… faith and religion,” by politicians who are now choosing who should and should not attend church.
Some say the same politicians have not compelled their party members to be vaccinated “but they choose to bully the church.”
The advent of Covid-19 has forced most congregants to resort to virtual church services and the use of home worship units with the aid of social media platforms such as Zoom and Facebook.
