Zimbabwe Donates 20,000 Covid-19 Vaccines to Namibia

In the spirit of regional cooperation and solidarity, Zimbabwe has come through for Namibia by donating twenty thousand doses of Covid-19 vaccines with the consignment having been delivered to Windhoek this Monday.

Namibian government also received personal protective clothing manufactured by local companies and state universities and medical supplies as part of the consignment which was handed over at the Hosea Kutako International Airport.

While donating the vaccines, Hon. Musabayana said “Our President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, has seen it fit to assist in our own small way our brothers and sisters in Namibia with this small donation of Covid-19 vaccines which we hope will assist Namibia in the fight against the Covid-19 virus,”

With 124 618 infections and 3 370 coronavirus-related deaths reported in the country since last year, Namibia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International relations Honourable Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwa expressed her country’s gratitude.

She said “the impact of Covid-19 is felt all over the world and this is a very big time when one comes to know who are your real friends in difficult times. This is a clear testimony of the friendship that exists between the two countries. We really sincerely thank the Government and the people of Zimbabwe for this donation. More gratifying is to know that with the exception of the vaccine everything else is manufactured in their country just at our doorstep,”

Statistics from Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Finance and Economic Development show that US$93,2 million has been spent on the procurement of vaccines.

The government has paid for 6,2 million doses of vaccines from Sinovac, five million doses from Sinopharm, with 500 000 having been donated by Sinopharm.
