The presidential and parliamentary elections in Zimbabwe will take place on August 23, 2023, according to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has called for an examination of the voter list, claiming missing names, including some of its officials, and voters who have been relocated several kilometres from their wards of home. Tensions have been increasing ahead of the election.

Some of these irregularities will be resolved, according to the electoral commission, during the ongoing scrutiny of the voters’ rolls.

As previously reported, the Zimbabwean government summoned the temporary US ambassador over social media statements about the upcoming elections that it claimed amounted to activism and meddling in domestic affairs.

Zimbabweans were urged by the US, which stands by its comments, to “make sure your voice is heard” in the election.
