Zimbabwe exported about $43.3m worth of commodities to Botswana in three years, a figure which should a rise of 126% in exports in the period.
Botswana is one of Zimbabwe’s traditional trading partners.
ZimTrade, the country’s export promotion body, reveals that Zimbabwe’s exports to neighbouring Botswana grew from $19.2m in 2017 to $43.3m in 2019.
According to the body, a contributing factor to the steady growth is the increased effort in nurturing trade between the two countries and continued activities by ZimTrade to identify areas of opportunities for local companies.
Meanwhile, South Africa, United Arab Emirates and Mozambique accounted for 72 per cent of Zimbabwe’s exports from January to June 2020.
South Africa ranks highest on Zimbabwe’s trading partners list in the period. Total exports of goods and services to the country amounted to $711.9m.
UAE and Mozambique got commodities worth $458m and $178m respectively.
Belgium and Uganda rounded out the top five export destinations for Zimbabwe.
Other major export destinations for Zimbabwean products in Southern Africa included Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritius and Malawi.
Zimbabwe also did significant trade with China, Pakistan, Sweden, New Zealand, Rwanda, Togo, Israel and Turkey, among others.
According to ZimStat, minerals continued to be the major foreign currency earner in the first six months of the year, accounting for 91 percent of receipts.
Gold dominated ($477.8m), followed by nickel ($427.6m), and then tobacco ($242.9m).
Other exports were ferrochrome ($76m), diamonds ($61m), platinum ($39m) and other precious metals ($63m).
