The presidency announced on Thursday that several suspects have been detained in Cameroon in connection with the murder of well-known journalist Martinez Zogo. The names and numbers of the suspects were not made public.
According to a statement, the suspects were being questioned to ascertain the extent of their involvement in the murder that occurred two weeks ago and the identities of everyone connected to it.
For the first time since Mr Zogo’s body was found, President Paul Biya paid a “special tribute” to him and expressed his “heartfelt condolences” to his family.
The radio host went missing for five days before being discovered dead on January 22. After an alleged kidnapping by unidentified men on January 17, his naked, decomposing body was discovered close to the capital, Yaoundé.
He was the manager of the independently owned Amplitude FM and the host of the well-known radio program “Embouteillage,” which is French for “traffic jam.”
A wealthy businessman and high-ranking officials were allegedly involved in an embezzlement case, which he had recently discussed on the radio.
