Zulum Confirms Number of Casualties In Maiduguri Explosions

Hours after explosions rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, in Northeastern Nigeria, the governor of the state, Prof. Babagana Zulum has confirmed the death of ten people, with dozens of others injured.

Boko Haram terrorists on Tuesday fired Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs) at the Maiduguri township, killing several residents and injuring 47 others.

The grenade shots were fired at Kaleri, on the outskirts of Maiduguri, but travelled further to Gwange and Adam Kolo communities which are densely populated areas of the state.

Kids on playgrounds in Gwangewere were also seen to have been injured by the shots.

Zulum, during his visit to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, promised that the hospital bills of the wounded victims would be shouldered by the state’s Ministry of Health.

He said it is a very sad moment for the people and government of Borno state, as 60 persons were affected in the explosions.

The governor talked about bucking the trend of such explosions in the state with a similar incident recorded exactly one year ago. He observed that technology would help the state tackle terrorism, and that it is more important than ever to assist Borno state in overcoming its security challenges.
