Bayern Munich reinforced their Bundesliga title credentials with a resolute defensive display in a goalless draw at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, maintaining their eight-point lead at the top.
In a rare ultra-defensive approach, Bayern failed to register a single shot on target in the first half for the first time since 1992. However, Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen were unable to capitalise on their dominance, despite hitting the woodwork twice through Jeremie Frimpong and Nathan Tella.
The result marks only the fifth time Bayern have dropped points in 22 league games this season, leaving them firmly on track to reclaim the title with 12 matches remaining.
Leverkusen, needing a win to keep their title hopes alive, were left frustrated as Florian Wirtz missed a last-minute chance to snatch victory.

Earlier in the day, Borussia Dortmund’s nightmare season continued with a 2-0 defeat at last-placed Bochum.
Greek forward Georgios Masouras struck twice in three minutes, punishing a dreadful Niklas Süle backpass to leave Dortmund languishing in 11th place after their fifth loss in seven games.
“It’s becoming a horror season,” admitted defender Nico Schlotterbeck.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Stuttgart squandered an opportunity to climb into fourth, throwing away a late lead in a 2-1 defeat to Wolfsburg.
Freiburg overcame a shocking penalty miss from Vincenzo Grifo to snatch a 1-0 win at St. Pauli thanks to an own goal, while Borussia Mönchengladbach moved up to seventh with a 2-1 victory over Union Berlin.
