Goalkeeper Antonín Kinský joined Tottenham Hotspur for £12.5 million from Slavia Prague, strengthening their team.
In a position plagued by injury issues, the Czech Republic U21 international has signed a contract that will run until 2031, adding much-needed depth.
With Fraser Forster unwell and Guglielmo Vicario, Spurs’ first-choice custodian, out for the team’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle, Spurs have a goalkeeping issue. Brandon Austin, 25, was obliged to start in goal for his senior team for the first time since there were no more experienced options.
Tottenham posted a statement on its official website on Sunday, saying, “We are delighted to announce the signing of Antonín Kinský from SK Slavia Prague, subject to international clearance and work permit.”
“The 21-year-old goalie has committed to a contract that will keep him wearing the number 31 shirt until 2031.”
The Czech Republic native Antonín was born and reared in Prague. He started playing football locally with FC Tempo Prague, Bohemians Prague 1905, and FK Dukla Prague, where he made his senior debut in July 2020.
“The goalie made nine appearances in his first season after signing with Slavia Prague in July 2021 and joining the Sešívaní’s B team.”
He played 13 games while on loan at MFK Vyskov during the second half of the 2021–2022 season. Antonín made 47 appearances for the Czech team in all competitions before returning for a second loan stint before the next season.
He made his Czech First League (Chance Liga) debut in July 2023 when he signed a season-long loan with FK Pardubice. Antonín made eighteen appearances during the campaign.
“Since rejoining Slavia Prague in 2024-2025, he has made 29 appearances this season, keeping 14 clean sheets in games in the Czech First League (Chance Liga), UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Champions League qualifiers.”
Antonín received his first senior call-ups before the 2024 October and November UEFA Nations League matches after playing for the Czech Republic’s youth teams from the Under-15 to the Under-21 levels.
His arrival coincides with a pivotal moment in Spurs’ campaign as they want to bolster their roster due to injuries and a decline in play.
As the team continues to fill holes in their roster, particularly in attack and midfield, Kinský’s move to North London marks their first acquisition of the January transfer window.
As Tottenham looks to bounce back from their recent setback, supporters will be hoping the Czech goalie can help calm the ship.
