The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged workers and the general public to refrain from using the services of MTN, Airtel, and Glo due to a recent 50 per cent tariff increase.
This decision was made following a session of the NLC’s Central Working Committee (CWC) in Kogi State. In a statement released on Wednesday, NLC president Joe Ajaero labelled the increase as “arbitrary” and called for an immediate reversal.
He indicated that the boycott would commence on Thursday and take place daily from 11:00 pm to 2:00 pm until the end of February 2025.
“As a first step in resisting this arbitrary tariff hike, the CWC has directed that beginning Thursday, February 13, 2025, Nigerian workers and other willing citizens shall boycott the services of Mtn, Airtel, and Glo daily between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm until the end of February 2025,” the statement reads.

The union stated that the boycott would persist until the tariffs are returned to their former rates, and they are awaiting the results of discussions by the appropriate committee.
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives instructed the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy to revoke the approval granted to telecommunication companies for the 50 per cent tariff hike.
The House directed the Digital Economy Ministry and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to “postpone the upcoming increase in telecommunications tariffs until their services are improved.”
