The Government Media Office in Gaza has confirmed that 80% of the population in the Gaza Strip is unable to access regular food supplies, with the area now officially facing a famine. In addition to the food crisis, the Gaza Municipality warned of an imminent risk of losing energy, fuel, and water supplies due to the ongoing closure of border crossings by the Israeli army.
The media office reported on Sunday that Gaza has been experiencing severe shortages for the past 15 days, ever since the entry of humanitarian aid was halted. The office called on international mediators to take action and end what it described as the illegal collective punishment of Gaza’s more than two million residents by Israeli forces.

In early March, the Israeli army sealed off all crossings to Gaza, blocking the entry of aid after it accused the region of violating a ceasefire agreement. This move came during a lack of international response and American indifference.
The Israeli government has also stopped the flow of essential energy and fuel, which are necessary for maintaining vital services, and has threatened to cut off the Mekorot water supply, which currently meets around 70% of Gaza’s daily water needs. The Gaza Municipality emphasized that any further interruption of energy supplies would lead to the collapse of water and sanitation systems, significantly worsening the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The municipality has urged international organisations to intervene and apply pressure on Israel to prevent further damage.
