Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the brutal murder of Eze Ignitus Asor, a Monarch of Obudi-Agwa village in Imo State’s Oguta Local Government Area.
On Monday, gunmen broke into the neighborhood and killed the Monarch along with two other locals.
According to reports, the assailants arrived in four automobiles, two motorcycles, and worked alongside a female accomplice to execute the task.
Police spokesman in the State Michael Abattam said the attackers pretended to be persons in need and went to the royal father to ask for assistance.
The President released a statement via Garba Shehu, his media assistant, the day following the assault. He gave the go-ahead for security forces in the state to look into the heinous incident and make sure that those responsible face the full force of the law.
He expressed his condolences to friends, family, the Obudi-Agwa community, and all those impacted by the attacks, and he prayed for the quick recovery of those hurt.
President Buhari also commended the Imo State Government for its energetic efforts to improve the security situation and urged all Imo residents and citizens to vigorously support the joint efforts of state actors and local inhabitants to maintain everyone’s safety.
The South-East region of Imo has had a string of attacks by armed individuals who wreck havoc on local communities. The states of Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Anambra are included in the zone.
South-east Nigeria was long regarded as the nation’s safest geopolitical region. The five states that make up the zone; Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo, had the fewest violent attacks on record when compared to other regions of the nation.
With 94 reported deaths in 2019, the south-east had the fewest reported deaths, followed by the south-west with 157 and the south-south with 341 deaths. The north-east had 1,009 deaths, the north-central had 469, and the north-west had the most with 1,118.
